In an orphanage in Tirana at the beginning of the Second World War during the occupation by the Italian fascists, a group of boys make plans to rebel against the despotic director and the oppression by the management.

After Mato Gruda, a man living in a remote village in the mountains of Albania, steals a cannon abandoned by the German invaders he has to decide whether to use the weapon to support the Partisan resistance or to avenge his family.

During a warm atmosphere, Olga sings the first lullaby to her newborn nephew: "Once upon a time there was an Olga who posed as a lady.Time passed by and the lady has become one of us, a comrade from the country"

In 80s Albania, the head of a village is very near retirement. He has many accomplishments but feels somewhat spiritually "bureaucratized" so wants his successor to be similar to him in character and principles. But in the assembly gathering another proposal is put forth, foiling the village head's plans entirely.

The committee led by Çerçiz Topulli, Mihal Grameno and Hajredin Tremishti return to their village and assassinate the Turkish officer of Gjirokastra. Afterwards, the Ottoman army starts a campaign against the province of Mashkullorë, which became a symbol of Albanian resistance and fight for freedom.
