Rafa, a Communist Republican exiled after the Spanish Civil War, returns to his hometown to carry out an attack against the imposed tyrannical regime, but the mission fails and, in his attempt to escape, he kidnaps a lady of high society.
Tonet lives an intense love story with Neleta, whom he has known since childhood, but the young man will be forced to leave the Albufera of Valencia and serve in the war in Cuba. During his absence, Neleta marries the rich innkeeper Canyamel. Upon the return of the war, Tonet and Neleta cannot avoid their adulterous relationship, provoking the talk of the people of the village.
When most people have inexplicably disappeared from the Earth, two families must find their way to The After in order to survive. But when they stumble across another survivor, they realize that finding their way there might be more challenging than they first thought.
Having successfully made it to The After, the survivors learn that every action has a reaction, but when forced to face their mistakes, will they make amends, or suffer the ultimate consequence?
