A private eye finds that her professional and personal lives are beginning to intertwine in this French drama. Maxime Chabrier (Anémone) is a woman in her mid-40s who works as a private detective. Despite her chain smoking and sloppy appearance, Maxime is regarded as a skilled investigator by her colleagues and considered the best PI at her agency by her boss. While Maxime has romantic dalliances with both men and women, she hasn't been involved in a long-term relationship since she left her husband 15 years ago. However, Maxime is hired to look into a case that suggests that her former husband has become involved with insurance fraud, which brings her into contact with her 17-year-old son Baptiste (Gregoire Colin) for the first time since the divorce. Just as Maxime is trying to mend fences with her son and find out what her ex has gotten himself into, she finds herself falling in love with Jacques (Michel Didym), an economist.

Rather than prosecute him, they gave him the option of emigrating elsewhere. He chose to serve at a clinic in a remote part of Portuguese Goa. He has been on his best behavior for years, but when the beautiful wife (Fanny Ardant) of a diplomat comes to him asking for an abortion, he is tempted to ask for sexual favors in return, and his life swiftly goes out of control.

Rolf Berger, a hard working and dutiful deputy judge at the court of appeal, has been married for many years with Eva. She has long ago accepted that he spends his evenings with his legal work. Rolf Berger has been invited to the 25th anniversary of his graduation and starts to reconsider the kind of life he lives. When he meets the 19-year old Inger he falls in love with her and decide to leave his wife.

Per Jonas wife Hedvig is ill and Barbro has been employed to care for her. Per Jonas falls in love with Barbro and in order to live with her, he kills Hedvig.

Julius Berge has an advertising firm in Stockholm together with his wife Sonja. The man with the ideas is their colleague Kurt Dal, who used to be engaged to Sonja. Their ménage à trois becomes a crazy mix of jealousy and misunderstanding.
