“Psychoanalysis is, in it’s entire spectre, an eminently POP discipline: anybody can relate to it without having studied and/or understood it. Cinema, an art for the age of self-reflection par excellence, is nothing less.” Fernando de Felipe departs from this premise to tell us the story of Duffy, a seven year-old boy who decides to settle accounts with his parents one dinner time. A black comedy retelling of the myth that became a complex without becoming complicated.

The Dutch 'Wad' (coastal mud flats) is a strange place. At low tide, many square miles of mud flats surface between the mainland and the northern islands. The Netherlands grow and shrink with the movement of the moon. Sudden incoming tide make these flats 'sea' again, sometimes drowning hikers by surprise. The Wad does not know what to make of itself. Land, see, mud, ocean floor... Two characters (and their dog) are stranded there in that desolate place. The only dramatic elements in this comical short are the sea, the wind, the sand and a lonely sea gull. Drawn in mud and tar on wet sandpaper.

BEK (Beak) is a tale about a girl who is born with wings instead of arms and a beak where a mouth should be. Unlike a real bird though, she cannot fly because she is, after all, still a girl. Hated by her father, she is driven from home and ends up joining the circus as a freak attraction. Adopted by a friendly, drunken clown she settles into her niche as a circus performer. As time goes by, she longs to be a real woman, a human, but there is no place for such a bird-creature in the world outside the circus. So, she creates her own fantasy world as she dreams about the life of a normal girl, somewhere far away from the circus. In the end, she dreams herself away from it all leaving the audience wondering if the girl was actually there, or if it was something they may have imagined – a girl with wings and a beak.
