Two neighboring villages fight over control of a stream to water their lands.

15th century. D. Afonso, an old jealous nobleman, demands that all stay away when his wife, D. Leonor, goes to church to pray to Our Lady of Mercês. Another nobleman, D. Rui, sees her and fells under the spell or he beauty. D. Afonso orders his wife to retreat to Quinta do Cabril, and decides, one night, to stab his rival to death. The tragedy of a woman who - after seven years of vain searches - gave up hope of finding her husband, a knight lost in battle in Marroc with Sebastião, king of Portugal. She marries, has a daughter by her second husband, and endures the silent reproach of an aid, Telmo Pais, the only who kept his hope that his master shall return, as well as the king... One day, a mysterious pilgrim arrives at the mansion.

A French sailor circa 1850, disembarks in a desert Atlantic island, and discovers a woman who had survived for many years her husband and brother, who have died while searching for mysterious valuables. The young couple discover paradise, and its end.

French Invasion, 1810. After being chased out of Buçaco, five French soldiers from Massena’s army enter the home of a humble family, rob and rape a 13-year-old girl. The father and older son swear revenge and try to hunt down the soldiers before they cross the border.

This documentary shows a typical Sunday in Mozambique's capital, tourist main attractions, an inquest in Lisbon about the perception of the people in the street about what life was like in that African colony (or, as the Government had it then, "province"), and then interviews and scenes of Lourenço Marques fishermen and a bar waitresses. African folk music and dance were used as documents and background for the text narration.
