Polosa vezeniya (literally) 'Streak of Luck' is the fifth film in a Mosfilm "youth" anthology series and comprises three short stories. The first story, 'Vizit' (The Visit) directed by film maker turned politician Yevgeni Gerasimov tells the story of a rural boy visiting his former village girlfriend, now living in Moscow. Next comes a short film by Aleksandr Majorov called 'Zolotye rybki' (Goldfishes) which is based on a story of a magical goldfish brought from a provincial pet store by the late Russian historian and science-fiction and fantasy writer Kir Bulychyov. The final segment and the title of the film, 'Polosa vezeniya' (Streak of Luck) tells the story of a member of staff at a research institute who is offered the job of the department head, but has second thoughts when he discovers the previous boss was unfairly dismissed.
The film depicts the years before the collapse of the Soviet system and the rebellion against it. Its protagonist is a young man who cannot get along in Soviet society, which is why many people consider him crazy. As a result, he decides to illegally cross the border and finally escape the confines of everyday life, challenging the tired system one last time.
The film is about political events which took place in 1989.

Once in a God-forsaken place, the heroine and her adopted daughter are forced to look for a bed for the night. Having found shelter in the building of an abandoned boarding school, she meets there close people from her past.
A young biophysicist, dreaming of spiritual and physical immortality, makes an experiment on himself: by radioactive irradiation he violates the genetic code, as a result of which he passes into another biological substance and becomes immeasurably more perfect than his fellows on Earth.
