허밍버드, 마르코 카레라는 우연과 상실, 사랑 이야기들로 이루어진 삶을 살고 있다. 영화는 70년대부터 현대까지 유동적으로 넘나들며 회상의 힘으로 흘러간다. 해변에서 마르코는 이뤄지지도 끝나지도 않는 평생의 사랑 루이사 라테스를 만난다. 원초적인 삶의 힘에 관한 영화인 <허밍버드>는 환상과 행복을 무기로 견딜 수 없을 것 같은 상황을 견뎌내기 위한 고된 투쟁에 관한 이야기이기도 하다.

오랜 소꿉 친구 ‘리타’를 짝사랑하고 있는 ‘하토리’. 자신은 ‘히로인’, 리타는 사랑의 ‘히어로’이자 운명의 남주로 언젠가는 리타와 연인이 될 것이라고 굳게 믿고 있는 하토리. 그러나 어느 날, 리타가 왕따를 당하고 있던 아다치를 도와주게 되면서 아다치와 사귀게 된다. 리타를 아다치에게서 뺏기 위해 몸부림을 치는 도중 초훈남 ‘코스케’에게 고백을 받게 된다. 리타가 너무 좋은 하토리, 하지만 코스케도 넘나 훈남인 것! 하토리 인생 최대의 고민이 시작된다.

The Zhou family has high hopes in giving birth to a son but was disappointed when Zhou Jiwei was born a girl, making her the third daughter in line. Because she was a disappointment to the family, she was only ever given hand me downs from her sisters. She felt no love from her family, but luckily she feels the love of a family from her neighbours. There she meets her 'brother' Dai Yaoqi and follows him around trying to be the best sister ever, however, he has never wanted to have a sister. As she tries her best to be close to him as his sister, she slowly realizes the feelings she holds for him are not love for a brother but something more.

Fifteen years ago, a young girl saved a young boy from drowning at a farm. Upon his rescue, they become friends and the two of them pray under the Star Apple tree together to wish for happiness for each other throughout their lives, and for them to meet again after fifteen years. But fifteen years later, circumstances have changed. The boy, Tao Si, is now a successful businessman who wishes to avoid his fixed marriage, while the young girl, Cao Kerui, has fallen for an orphan boy who grew up on the farm with her. Incidentally, the orphan boy is actually the boyfriend of Tao Si's future fiancé. How will these four people overcome these obstacles and realize that love can be found in the least expected places?
