When a drunken passenger causes taxi driver Lao Shi to swerve and hit a motorcyclist, he stops to help the victim. As no ambulance arrives he drives him to the hospital, but soon has to face the rules of today's Kafkaesque China. With his family and life endangered, he desperately seeks a way out.
Based on true events, "Superman Doesn't Steal" is a coming of age story, set during the 1970's Atlanta child murders- as seen through the eyes of 9 year old Harriet and her brother, who are fascinated with superheroes. However, when they experience a troubling series of events- the impact on their family leaves emotional scars and causes them both to grow up fast as they redefine their definitions of heroes, villains and yes- even Superman.
Two lovers learn they've known each other over many life times and that this is their last life together. They don't have long to live and must clean up the 'hurts' between them earned over the millennia and multiple personalities they've inhabited together. Travelling through time visions, the see themselves as slaves, as officers of the law, as stranger on a train and heal the rifts between them as they revisit. Unfortunately they learn they are not alone. A third entity reveals he has been following them through many lives as several different people. He is angry that they are now preparing to leave the earth. The entity does not want them to leave it behind and fights against their harmony.
